The invention discloses a method for accurately predicting the gestational age of dogs and cats: to make pregnant dogs/cats in supine position, to measure the length of the sagittal plane of the fetal kidney with an ultrasound diagnostic instrument, which is recorded as the long axis of the kidney; to measure the maximum length X1 and X2 of the median longitudinal section of the left kidney and the right kidney, respectively, according to the long axis regression equation of the left kidney: Y1 = 0.0811X1 2.5876; and to the long axis regression equation of the right kidney: Y2 = 0.087X2 2.8491. The gestational age of the fetus was calculated as Y = Y1 = Y2. Because the kidneys of dogs and cats are pea-shaped, one on the left and one on the left; the left kidney is posterior; the right kidney is anterior. The kidneys of dogs and cats in late pregnancy (after 40 days of gestation) have developed and formed. The probe of the veterinary ultrasound diagnostic instrument can scan bilateral kidneys easily and measure them accurately. Moreover, the kidneys of dogs and cats show a steady linear growth with the growth of gestational age, and have a strong linear relationship with gestational age. Therefore, the relevant indicators of fetal kidney length change can be used as a gestational age indicator. The new method is applied to practice.
